Lac du Flambeau Culture
Imagine being immersed into a world where the breathtaking beauty of Wisconsin’s north woods surrounds you and you are only a few feet from the water, this is our treasured gem we call the lakeside Trapper’s Cabin.
The band’s name, Lac du Flambeau, is derived from the French traders and trappers who frequented the region, recognizing the band’s unique practice of nocturnal fish harvesting using torchlight.
The designation Lac du Flambeau reflects the tradition of catching fish at night with illuminated torches. This name, meaning “Lake of the Torches”, was attributed to the band by the French traders and trappers who explored the area and traded with local Native Tribes.
